kim turns 29 - july 12th

The day actually started with a phone call from Brent in Mozambique! That was a good way to wake up. Then... at lunch Paige and Marci were planning to come with CPK for lunch and along with them came... CHERYL!!! She flew in from Dallas to surprise me and to spend a girls weekend with us. It was a wonderful surprise. We ate lunch in my office with Jackie and Cayce once I calmed down a bit from the surprise!

After work we met my parents, Grandma June, and Mark & Elizabeth at Bandera for dinner... mmmmm! Sadly there was not a large enough table for all of us so we had to be a bit separated. I did my best to go back and forth between the tables. It was SO much fun to be there all together. I loved it.

After dinner we all went over to Gelato Paradiso for some dessert. It was nice to talk all together as a group for a few minutes. Grandma June shared with us about her days of skinny dipping in her friend's pool and my dad made fun of Cheryl playing with Paige's hair by beginning to play with Marci's hair. It was interesting to say the least. We got to hear all about Mark's new job with Bank of America and I filled everyone in on Brent's travels. It was a wonderful birthday, even though I missed my husband very much!

viney wedding

It was a beautiful day in Ladera Ranch on 07.07.07! Our friends Shannon and Sean were married at the Covenant Hills Clubhouse. The ceremony was perfect and Shannon was beautiful, as any bride should be on their most special of days...
Shannon's dad walked her down the aisle to an anxiously awaiting Sean...

Their ceremony was awesome...

Shannon's dress was stunning...

They kissed and it was final...

Mr. and Mrs. Viney!!

The reception was right there, a hawaiian theme, tables with sand and shells, hawaiian beach names, and yummy hawaiian cuisine...

Lindamood-Bell represented quite well with two full tables. Kim sat with all the couple, missing Brent...

Their first dance as husband and wife...

Sean gave the whole day a thumbs up by the end... and we were thankful! We adore the running thumbs up, it's so... passionate and... unnecessary, yet at the same time... GREAT!

Shannon and Sean left on Sunday for a honeymoon in Puerta Villarta. The day was a total success!

london, johannesburg... mozambique

After 11 hours in a plane the group landed in London. Brent slept great on the plane so he was ready for exploring the city on their 12 hour layover. They went to many places, here he is over looking a river. Next is the group at Trafalgar Square.

After 12 hours in London they hopped onto another 11 hour flight to South Africa. They spent 4 days there ministering to people in towns like the one below. They also got a chance to do a small safari where Brent got to play with some baby lions. He was brave. They were biting him some, even at 3 months old their teeth are quite sharp.

At night they worship in tents like this one. Here, Stephanie is preaching. Brent had a chance to talk on their first night there... probably because he was the most rested. That man can sleep anywhere!

Brent said this lion walked one foot away from them and is totally wild. Awesome!

On Sunday they left for a small flight to Mozambique where they will spend the remainder of the trip. Brent has been helping out with the Iris ministry in Maputu. He's had a chance to meet lots of great kids, minister some on the street, and meet many Mozambiquans!

brent in africa

Brent left for Africa on Tuesday afternoon around 3:30. Kim was sad to say goodbye but excited for him at the same time. He flew 11 hours to London, spent a day there (12hours) then got on another 11 hour flight to South Africa. He is there now and will be until Sunday. On Sunday he and his group will fly from South Afirca to Mozambique where he will be working with the missionaries in Maputu. They will be helping with the kids at the orphanage, ministering to the people, and helping the missionaries there. Brent is really looking forward to being there and seeing God's work across the globe. This is a photo of the group before they left for the airport!

saturday...

Saturday morning Kim had a work function for Lindamood-Bell. She had to be there at 6AM for a video conference that was suposed to go from 7-9:30AM. She was suposed to meet Brent afterward for an end of the school year celebration at church. Around 10:30 when the video conference was still going she called Brent to let him know she would be late. He was being fishy on the phone and when she asked him about it he just decided to tell her that he was coming to her office. She was confused but got no answers until he arrived. Around 11 the conference was still going when Brent arrived at Lindamood-Bell. When Kim went out to meet him he handed her a bag to check the clothes he had packed for the day. Inside was a card and a brand new camera!!! Kim has been wanting a new camera, a little one that can fit in her purse. She was elated. He then turned on the camera to play a small movie. It was of Brent saying that we were going to SANTA BARBARA for the day to celebrate her birthday! Kim was SO excited. She loves Santa Barbara. So we hopped in the car, said good-bye to Shan and Sean and got on the road...

Kim was not hungry since she had eaten at the video conference but Brent needed lunch so we stopped at Chiptole to get him a little somethin... then back on the road...
And then this happened... TRAFFIC... it was horrendous. We sat on the 405 and the 101 for over 3 hours. (As you can see Kim tried passing the time by playng with the new camera).

So... we stopeed off for a treat in Camarillo. We thought maybe it would clear up if we got off the freeway for an hour or so. We enjoyed drinking yummy treats, cheacking email and playing...

...Whack-a-Penguin... one of our favorite past times!

When Brent was a happy man again we got back on the road. We went about 20 minutes with smooth sailing and then...

Traffic AGAIN!!!

Finally we made it to Westmont around 5PM. We wanted a peaceful place to just "be" for awhile before going to dinner downtown. It was nice to walk around, there were no students anywhere and it was very quiet. We walked all through campus and stopped at the pond to pray for awhile. Brent is heading out for Africa this week so there was lots to lift up!
Beautiful Westmont...
We had fun with the new camera... taking photos all over campus!

We stopped at the pond for a while to pray and relax. It was a really nice afternoon and we forgot all about the horrific traffic. Then we headed downtown for dinner at...We had a lovely dinner at "Something Fishy" The hibachi was yummy, sushi was okay. After dinner we walked along State St. and then went to dessert at...

father-son trip

Brent and his buddies had a chance to take their dads on a Father-Son fishing trip to Rock Creek, near Mammoth. They camped for 3 days, hiked, and talked. A great time was had by all. They came home with stories and good memories. I think they would all do it again. And look at the great places the hiked to... yes, the water really was that blue.
